About the Bands
Lavay Smith & Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers
Big Band Stage (4pm - 5:30pm)
Lavay Smith, the vocalist and bandleader of the all-star
Red Hot Skillet Lickers, is internationally recognized
as the Queen Of Classic Jazz & Blues of the 1940's and
1950's. The group's last album,
Everybody's Talkin' 'Bout Miss Thing!, received a
prestigious 4 & 1/2 Star review from Downbeat Magazine.
Lavay's singing style is influenced by greats such as Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, and Bessie Smith. Whether singing her own compositions or drawing on a large repertoire of classics, Lavay and her all-star 7-piece band bake up an instant recipe for dancing and good times.
South Bay School of Music Arts Big Band
Big Band Stage (12pm - 1:30pm)
This lively 18-piece big band, based in Milpitas,
performs a variety of tunes ranging from Latin to jazz
standards.
Bug Horn Rex
Big Band Stage (6pm - 7:30pm)
It's west coast jazz meets good old blues meets New
Orleans street-funk as this 7-piece band with a bright
horn section leads you on a stroll down Bourbon Street.
The Bingtones
Big Band Stage (2pm - 3:30pm)
Chock full of veteran musicians who've worked with the
best in the business, this 10-piece band performing pop,
R&B, and soul brings rock-solid rhythms and infectious
melodies to every performance.
